Falling Behind

So I feel like these days I’m falling behind on everything: work, homework, schoolwork, lifework, and especially my wardrobe.  Lately, I’ve been dressing like a bag lady in her Sunday bests… and I haven’t the guts to take pics of it and post it. (And what would that make me anyway…. glorifying bag ladies?  Intentionally dressing like one just to document it and have it ridiculed by the masses?)   Point being, I need new shoes.  I need shoes I can wear every day.  With every thing.  But that still have a heel and some “thing” to it… AND I’m having a hell of a time finding something like it that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.  What do you do when you don’t live in a shoe…..shoe-drawings

Have been away…

but working diligently on the latest Dinner Jacket, and its almost done! And it almost knocked me out! (due to the amount of time its taken us this time around)…. Will report back later in the week…..! Oh yeah, and my birthday is coming up…. I’ll be posting birthday outfit pics (not birthday suit, note). See you soon!

Year of Menswear!

The CFDA nominees have been announced,  and the ones that stand out for me are House of Waris (for devoted Voguettes, he’s been around and around and is getting some real credit for his beautiful designs),  Esquivel Shoes (FINALLY! Men’s shoes that are interesting without being flamboyant! Do check out their site!), Simon Spurr (modern dandy, somehow not flamboyant… I can see my own man in this shade of pink, or rather hope to!) and for women’s wear Ohne Titel.

Sneak Peek

Sneak Preview of Paris Vogue October 2009…. which I wait and wait and wait for, but won’t get until the end of October… C’est la vie!  But apparently its the Supermodel Issue, and (gulp) Lara.Stone.Is.In.Blackface. I haven’t seen the full editorial yet, but I’m sure Carine is as controversial as usual.  Shock for Shock value’s sake? I don’t know yet…. Although, allegedly, the Supermodel is all white models….. and one in blackface.  Allegedly, and we’ll see when I actually get the issue in my hand. Today’s Special

Vampy BoyGirlfriend
Today’s Outfit brought to you by my sour disposition.  I’m in college this year.  I’m a snob.  And nothing brings out more snobbery than being surrounded by those who “couldn’t care less”.  I travel in the land of  practicality and wannabe.  Walking in a sea of poly-blend and spandex, and it feels like high school all over again.  There are cliques in college.  I see bizarre girls mixing strands of pearls with skater shoes.  Odd haircuts, fake designer purses, and semi-stylish girls who come here after university…. I probably fit into the latter category.  I don’t like school, I don’t like my teachers, and it feels like watching paint dry at a Nascar rally.  I know April will creep up on me sooner than expected, I know it has to.  But it doesn’t feel like it that way right now…. I think tomorrow will be a sunnier day.

I love October.  I think I have to, because its my birthday month, but even if it wasn’t, I love a lot about it.  The saturated gray tones, the smell in the air, and then I get the urge to drape myself in fur and leather (sorry PETA, if I was a celebrity, I’m pretty sure I’d be on your worst dressed list. Actually, I’m not that sorry).  But it never lasts long enough, soon enough, the snow falls, the bone chilling cold arrives and I suffer the mean reds (which don’t leave until sometime mid-May it seems…).  This winter, I’m determined to make the most of it though, see as many art shows, food shows, wine shows, soirees, get-to-gethers, box-socials, you name it.   And for that, I think I need a list of dream shoes to wear.Nicholas Kirkwood for Rodarte

Now, there are so many interesting, fascinating elements in this shoe.  The heel!>!?!  The studding!?!?! It looks like it was welded together in the bowels of hell.  And I’m down with that.  THIS is a power shoe.  I saw an Ottawa magazine that featured a local in a style profile.  The woman was lauded for her “modern aesthetic” (ha! if you can’t tell, I’m being sarcastic).  She wore the Club Monaco Uniform (cheap white button up shirt, ill-fitting A-line black skirt), held up her wannabe-status symbol Burberry wallet (seriously??? your CHANGE PURSE is part of your ‘look’?) and in her 1 inch kitten heels (PLAINPLAINPLAIN black, nothing to them. just black. could have been bought at Payless) told the viewer about her ‘power heels’. I digress in anger.  See above.  THAT is a power heel.  If you sport “designer” change purses, you don’t know what your talking about.

rick_owens_boots

That is a thigh high boot.  I would be happy to spend 25 minutes in the morning trying to get them on.  It may be the best part of the day.

Vintage YSL loafer

And one of these days, I’ll have to wear flats, and I will. If I can get my hands on these puppies…..

I’m still sick.

And this is all I want to do….

HAIDER ACKERMAN!

Every single outfit seems to be my favorite thing to wear.   See for yourself!favorite outfit ever!

00020m

Every model had confidence as the main accessory, stomping down the runway like goddesses of war, eyes fiercely piercing camera, and the fabrics running smoothly across bodies like oils atop a canvas.  Haider Ackerman might be my favorite new designer.  Uncomplicated, he strays from trends and gimmicks.  These are clothes whose wearer you don’t want to mess with….00050m00160mHaider00290m00320m
